Editorial Review

If you have a digital video recorder, this is the remote for you. Even when you have both satellite and a DVR (TiVo), the Logitech Harmony H688 has conveniently placed controls for all necessary commands. It's easy to program by connecting the remote to your computer with the supplied USB cable.

unable to use 1 out of 5

Seller didn't include any instructional material and no software to program item. E-mailed seller twice and no reply

Tiny little Mushy Buttons. 2 out of 5

I played with this remote for the better part of two days to get the programming right. I never did get it exactly the way I wanted. The OK/SEL button just would not work, apparently not software just a mechanical failure. I am returning the unit. I can live with time consuming programming and even incomplete programming and maybe I would even use a replacement unit if it worked.

But, I could never get used to those tiny little mushy buttons placed so close together. I really can't imagine how a company like logitech that is known for keyboards could produce a product with such poor ergonomic design and no tactile feedback at all. You really can't tell if you've pushed a button or not because they are so mushy. I frequently pushed multiple buttons at once by mistake because they are all right against each other with no space between them. Pass this one up.

Good ... and not so good. 3 out of 5

I HAD 3 REMOTES (TV, DVD/CD PLAYER, CABLE) AND I WANTED JUST ONE...

1. It arrived with no instructions nor software. I had to write an email to the vendor. Their reply was prompt with an URL to upload the instructions. So far, annoying but OK.
2. From the computer you need to give the details about the devices (TV, DVD player, etc). I had only 3 devices to do. It took me about an hour to get all 3 inputted into the remote. A bit more annoying, but still OK.
3. It all functioned just fine on my first test... I can now turn 'on' all 3 devices with one button... This is a plus...HOWEVER, NOT ALL FUNCTIONS FROM THE CABLE REMOTE ARE AVAILABLE: The cable remote told me details about the show, details about upcoming shows, window in picture info for other channels, etc. NONE OF THIS CAN BE DONE BY THIS REMOTE.

BOTTOM LINE: I still need the cable remote to see complete functionality.... So.. I still have two remotes on my coffee table...oh well...

Great remote, easy to use, a little fragile 4 out of 5

This is a must have if you have many brands of equipment in your home theather. I have three kids ages 8 and down and they know exactly which button to press to play video games, to watch a DVD or to watch tv. Takes some time to set up but is very friendly. The only con is that it is too fragile, I have bought four units in the past 2 years since the buttons got stuck on three of them and one got the screen broken. Overall, I don't mind buying one every six months since it does everything I need it to.

Don't buy this loser 1 out of 5

For $99 this should be a much better remote. If you watch movies in the dark, you have to use the glow button, guess what, you will have to replace the batteries once a month at least. Also, Logitech has over simplifed the remote. You can't program individual buttons you have to use their program that only allows you to program devices and not the remote directly. If you have to go into the device menu a lot you will not be able to control the volume unless you switch to the device that controls volume. Why not have an option to program each button period... But the remote is useless now because of the low battery life. Do not buy this unless you want to buy batteries every month. Ridiculous. Only remote I have ever had like this.
