Superior sound quality from the direct auxiliary port in your car is possible, thanks to the LiquidAUX Bluetooth Car Kit from Kensington. Compatible with any Bluetooth 2.0-enabled music phone, it brings new meaning to the term "plug and play."
The 2.4GHz wireless remote allows you to operate the music player and your phone with your thumb. |
Packing a lot of function into a little space, the LiquidAUX starts to work as soon as you plug it into any direct auxiliary port. |
The steering wheel-mounted remote control works with the adapter to provide wireless audio streaming (A2DP protocol required) and hands-free calling. |
Quick Installation
Simply plug your phone into the car kit using a 3.5-mm audio cable, then insert the kit into your auxiliary port. Within seconds, digital-quality sound will be pumping through your car's audio system. Charging the unit is done with any USB cable (not included).
Hands-Free Operation
The steering wheel-mounted remote control is designed so that you can operate the car kit with just your thumb, allowing you to keep your hands on the wheel. Using the 2.4GHz wireless remote, you can begin and end calls as well as play, pause, and skip music files.
Support
Backed by Kensington's two-year warranty, the car kit also comes with free technical support.
What's in the Box
LiquidAUX Bluetooth car kit, remote control, and 4-foot audio extension cable.
Poor sound quality 2 out of 5
I received this as a birthday gift. I had it in my wishlist but hadn't bought it because of the mixed reviews and only partial functionality with the iPad. My wife bought it at full price.
Basically it works like it is supposed to, but (at least with the one I received) there was a somewhat loud, irregular static, that was there whether or not it was linked up to the music source. The static was loudest when the unit was installed in the front outlet of my Honda Civic; when I moved it to the center console outlet, the static was somewhat lower, but then I wouldn't have been able to use the microphone for phone calls. I get a small amount of static when I plug other devices straight into my aux input jack, but in those cases, I could just turn up the volume on the device to drown out the static. On this device, there is no support for volume control (unlike my bluetooth stereo headset.) So the only way to turn up the volume is to do it on the stereo, which also amplifies the static.
I see today that this device is on clearance down from $80 to $20, and if we had paid that I might have kept it, but for $80 it was not worth the bad sound quality, so I returned it. Still searching for something that serves the same function; a bluetooth link from a phone or music player that plugs into a car auxiliary port.
Rock solid - it works!! 5 out of 5
This is my first Amazon review... I am so impressed with this item I feel compelled to share my experience. I was very skeptical when I bought this and really did not expect much from it. The previous BT adapter I had tried was a total failure. I was pleasantly surprised.
i have an iPhone 3GS and a 3 series BMW. The car has factory BT for phone (which I love and wanted to continue to use), but no stereo BT. There is a cig lighter and aux jack next to each other in the center console, so this adapter takes up zero space and no wires dangling around the console. Out of the box I plugged in the LiquidAux. Pairing was a breeze. Although the LiquidAux could handle phone over BT if you want it to, it allows the factory car BT to handle calls while sending music via the stereo LiquidAux. I have never had to adjust or program anything. It just works. When I get in my car the car factory BT pairs with the iPhone for calls and the LiquidAux pairs for music. I press play on the liquidAux remote and the iPod starts playing where it left off. If I want to make a call I press the phone button on my steering wheel, the music pauses, I make my call, then music resumes when the call is done. Same with incoming calls. I can pause the music with the touch of the LiquidAux remote. All this happens with iPhone still in my pocket! I've had this for several weeks and so far it has been rock solid. Works every time without fail. The only thing missing is that the FF/REV buttons on the LiquidAux remote do not work with iPhone - this is Apple's shortcoming, though, not the LiquidAux. The iPhone does not support this feature in AVCRP. Until Apple comes through with this, there is a workaround iPhone app called "BT helper".
Great Idea but no bass 3 out of 5
I have an iPhone 3Gs with OSX 3.1 and the hands free part of this device works great. The wireless remote works really well with the iPhone's voice control.
The bluetooth speaker mode (A2DP) is on the decent-to-poor side depending on the kind of music you like. I don't know if this is due to the iPhone or LiquidAux. The mid-range and high notes come through clear (near CD quality) but the bass notes are completely filtered out. For example, even with the bass dial on my car turned all the way up, and the EQ settings on my iPhone set to "Bass Booster", I still don't hear the "Boom-Boom-Boom" from the Black Eyed Peas song as I would if I hooked up my phone to the car through the headphone jack.
Also note iPhone users, the 3.1 version of the iphone bluetooth software (AVRCP) doesn't support fast forward, rewind, and changing songs. This means only the pause/play button on the wireless remote work with the iPhone. You can however, use voice control to change songs... Hopefully this is fixed in version 4.0 this summer.
Great audio at a great price! 5 out of 5
I use the LiquidAUX with my Samsung Moment and it works great! Each time I turn on the car it syncs within 10-15 seconds. The steering wheel attachment is not too bad if you tighten it up well (can rotate a little if it's loose). In the Moment you can select media profile and phone profile separately. Since I use a Motorola H700 headset, I only selected the media profile; it will still stop the "radio" when a call comes in !!!
I use this with Slacker Radio (streaming service) and a small USB FM transmitter (no longer manufactured by SIIG) and the audio is wonderful! It's easy to move to a company car for long trips.
I'm very pleased with my Amazon purchase.
Easy to transmit streaming radio to car stereo 4 out of 5
This device saves me the hassle of plugging and unplugging the auxiliary cable from my phone every single time. The moment that I walk in my car, I'm connected right away. So easy. It was quite difficult for me to pair the remote with the device, but since my Motorola Droid does not have voice recognition, so it doesn't matter. I only use the "phone" button on the remote to accept calls.
The microphone on this device is very weak. Callers cannot hear me but I can hear them loud and clear transmitted through my car stereo. I can also hear the driving directions loud and clear. Device will mute Pandora when the next direction comes up, and then resume to the music. All in all, I am a satisfied customer.
